America... one nation under God

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." The Pledge of Allegiance
Nowadays America stands as the biggest Christian nation in the world with more than 240 million Christians. It is actually the Biggest protestant nation (152 million) , the 3rd biggest catholic (70 million behind Brazil and Mexico) and the 10th orthodox nation (5 million). Other Christians groups (mormons..) make around 3.3% of the population (CIA world fact book).
The USA is still deeply religious western nation. In 2000, each candidate running for top office-with the exception of Joe Lieberman-had to proclaim his belief in Jesus Christ. More than the half of Americans believe in creation as well as in the Book of Revelations' description of the end of the world (CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll). America has the largest number of Christian missionaries in the world. World vision a protestant NGO is the biggest in the world operating in 102 nations around the world with a 2 billion $ budget helping 100 million (2006 numbers) !! America is also the biggest bible printing nation.
The distribution of Christians in America isn’t homogenous. The Catholics are concentrated in the North east and the west, while the south is the protestants stronghold. The state of Utah is the Mormons land. The state of Oregon makes the exception with a non-religious majority.
233 year after independence declaration (July 4, 1776) , America is still on the founding fathers’ principles and traditions as a land of faith and a nation under God and it’s what makes America’s prosperity and development.

  2. Another interesting fact. The other day, I was at PTA meeting (parent teacher association) at Danielle's school. Before we started the meeting, we were asked to stand, place our hand on our heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. It was weird for me at first but I loved the patriotism. Also, the entire school, every morning, lines up and recites the Pledge of Allegiance before going to class. From KG to 5th grade. And every Friday, it's Flag day. So they also have a certain extra ritual on that day. American people (not politicians that is)on average don't have much interest in foreign politics but are very fueled up about their own country.
